Our Mission
Provide craft coffee comprised of a collective effort of fair traders, growers, brewers and their buyers. Build an ambiance of love for coffee. Serve a community of people from all backgrounds and bringing them together to encourage and help discover their passions and creativity.
Vision
We are Peter, Mahra, and Chris, and we are Schola Coffee. Schola (sko.la) means School in Latin. School, because we believe that we never stop learning.
We exist to serve our community through Coffee, Creation, and Passion. Each of us grew up in San Diego, specifically in the neighborhood of Paradise Hills. We want nothing more than to give back and see our community grow and flourish together. Creation and Passion are key components of who we are. We believe we were created to create and want to provide good coffee in a creative space that will energize the passion in our community.
In this space we envision our dream to come to life – Providing coffee to our local community while offering a space that can be utilized by creatives thriving in what they are passionate about. On top of operating as a coffee shop, we’d like to see the space used for private and public events that will bring our community together.
Our vision began back in November of 2016 when we hosted an event called Creation Collective that stemmed from a passion to bring community together. We rented out a small venue and gathered local artists/creators and brought together about 100 people from our community to enjoy a night of coffee, music, and art. It was a taste of our bigger dream. We thought about how we could save up to make this dream happen so we started making Cold Brew from home and selling it to our close family and friends. The coming years after that, we stayed active in the community by participating in local events and collaborating with local small businesses.
In December of 2020, we started our Sunday pop-up at People’s Church San Diego. Since, we have had the opportunity to do what we love the most… Serve the community. It’s been a good run, but we now have the opportunity to temporarily move into the church nursery room and create it in a coffee space, while working towards getting a Shipping Container Coffee Shop or Trailer that we can semi-permanently place within an Outdoor Space.
What now?
We can try to do this alone but there is greater impact when we come together. So, here are different ways you can help!
- FOLLOW our journey on Instagram @scholacoffee and share about us! Like our posts, send us a kind comment. Get the word out that there’s a new coffee shop in San Diego.
- VISIT us and make us one of your go-to coffee spots. We currently pop-up every Sunday from 8:30am to 12:00pm at People’s Church and are making plans to open everyday! 🙂
- SHARE your time and talents. Know how to paint? build? demo? install a sink? or maybe you just want to lend a helping hand? Let us know. We’d love to work together with the people we get to serve! Send us a DM on Instagram!
- GIVE towards our vision via this Go Fund Me. Can’t visit us in person or maybe you don’t drink coffee but still want to give? A cup of coffee at Schola is about $5.25. You can virtually buy a cup of coffee or two or three. Or, give any amount you desire. We are grateful for any dollar amount that is given towards the Vision of Schola Coffee.
